Podcast: Episode 143 - Agents, Trust, and the Future of AI Work

When AI Becomes an Agent

There’s a subtle shift happening in the world of artificial intelligence, one that’s easy to miss if you’re only watching the headlines.

For the past several years, AI has lived primarily in the realm of assistants. Tools that suggest. Bots that draft. Helpers that wait for us to prompt, then respond. But that era is fading. A new phase is emerging. One in which AI doesn’t just respond. It acts.

This week, I recorded an episode of Shape of Tomorrow with a sore throat and a mug of tea nearby. I wasn’t about to skip it, because what’s unfolding with OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Agent is worth a closer look. For those of us working at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and emerging technology, this is a moment to pay attention to.

But technology alone is never the full story.

The second half of the episode turns toward a foundational concept I believe will matter greatly to every organization deploying generative AI systems: a governance model built not just around performance, but around trust. I introduce something called AI TRiSM, a framework designed to help leaders think clearly about responsibility, safety, and strategic implementation as agentic systems evolve.

This isn’t theory. It’s already being shaped in real deployments. And if we don’t design trust frameworks alongside capabilities, we risk building something impressive that ultimately fails to scale with integrity.
